Captain Alexander R Skinker, Co I, 138th Infantry

Captain Skinker personally led an automatic rifleman and a carrier in an attack on German machine guns in the Hindenburg line near Cheppy. The carrier was killed instantly but Captain Skinker seized the ammunition and continued through an opening in the barbed wire, feeding the automatic rifle until he, too, was killed. The rifleman was killed a few moments later. Captain Skinker was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously.
