Cantigny, (France), May 28, 1918, Lt Col Robert J Maxey, While with the first wave, he took personal charge of marking out the line of resistance. Though hit at the base of the brain with a machine gun bullet, he caused himself to be carried to regimental headquarters where he gave valuable information to the regimental commander, Col. Ely. The brave officer was then sent to the rear where he died in a short time.
