Dewey Walter Fink

Private Hdqrs Co., 1st Machine Gun Bn., 1st Division; son of Walter Fink of Grand Forks, ND and born at Arthur ND Jan 29, 1899; entered service in June, 1916 in MG Co. 1st ND Inf., NG; served on Mexican Border from July 1916 to February, 1917; answered call when M.G. C., 164th Inf., 41st (Sunset) Division called into service. Trained at Camps Greene, Mills and Merritt. Overseas on December 15, 1917 on U.S. "Leviathan" on her first trip to France; transferred to 1st M.C. GN., 1st Division after arrival in France. Served in all major battles participated in by 1st Division up to June 7, 1918 on which date he was instantly killed by a high explosive shell.
