Nick Daniels
Sergeant, "M" Co., 164th Infantry, 41st (Sunset) Division; son of Jacob Daniels of Grand Forks and born in Russia November 20, 1899 entered service in fall of 1917 and trained at Camps Greene, Mills and Merritt; overseas Dec 14, 1917, landing in England, going to France two weeks later; after arrival in France transfered to 26th Infantry, 1st Division with which organization he saw active combat service at Cantigny, Soissons and in the Meusa-Argonne offensive; killed in action in the Argonne Forest on Oct 5, 1918. Sergeant Daniels died in the arms of Private Herndon, a Grand Forks boy, on the Argonne battlefield and his last words were that: "He was going strong to the last."
